Why Children Should Exercise!
Over the weekend I read an interesting article regarding childhood obesity. It is something that is very prevalent in our society.
I have summarised the article however you can follow this link if you want to read the full article.
Overweight and obese children have doubled since 1980 in Australia. It’s safe to say that we have a problem which needs to be addressed. Overweight and obese children are susceptible to musculoskeletal pain, diabetes, heart problems, depression and anxiety. 80% of overweight kids go on to become overweight adults.
Unfortunately many parents are unaware that their child is overweight or obese and in some cases that their life is at risk. It is said that only 30% of Australian children get enough exercise. Therefore it is vitally important to make sure your child does some form of exercise. Overweight children will burn through more calories for the same exercise than slimmer children. Short bursts of exercise are also an effective way for kids to stay healthy.
Recent statistic collated by the Australian Government found that 1 in 4 children aged 5 to 17 are obese or overweight. These figures are alarming! So get your child off their backside and get them moving!
